Ingredients

Apple Fries
  • 3 large firm apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour or cornstarch for extra crispiness
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp melted butter or cooking spray for coating
Cinnamon Sugar Toss
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Shallow breading bowls
  • Tongs

Method

  1. Peel apples and cut into uniform fry-shaped strips about ½ inch wide and 3 inches long. Pat completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up three shallow bowls: flour in the first, beaten egg in the second, and panko breadcrumbs mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt in the third.
  3. Dredge each apple strip in flour, dip in egg, then press firmly into the seasoned panko mixture to coat all sides.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–4 minutes.
  5. Arrange breaded apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. Lightly spray with cooking spray or brush with melted butter.
  6. Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through at the 5–6 minute mark, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. While still hot, immediately toss the apple fries in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Serve immediately with caramel sauce, vanilla yogurt, or honey for dipping.

Notes

For best results, use Granny Smith apples for a tart-sweet balance. Always pat apples completely dry before breading. Cook in batches if needed — never overcrowd the air fryer basket. Best served fresh and hot.
